Ribes cereum (Wax currant)
Ribes montigenum. Showy, yellow-red to coral-pink, tubular flowers. Red or orange-red fruits, round, 1/3 inch berries in a hanging clusters ripen in August. Reddish-brown, smooth bark. Small to medium upright shrub to 3 feet tall, often forms thickets.

In Java, where it has long been known and has naturalized.Uses: As forage plant. As food the leaves and young pods are eaten, usually steamed or cooked in vegetable dishes or in salads. Medicine: In Java the leaves are used medicinally for treating herpes. A decoction of the leaves is used against irritations of the skin in Thailand. In Laos the seeds are used as a substitute for coffee.
