Echinocactus horizonthalonius var. moelleri (Texas blue barrel). Full sun to part shade. Heat tolerant. Little water. Hardy to 14°F. Cylindrical barrel grows slowly to 10" tall; 6" diameter. Origin: Mexico, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico. Seeds collected in west Texas.

Echinocactus texensis (Horse Crippler). Syn. Homalocephala texensis. Sunset: 10-13; USDA: 5-11. Hardy to 0° F.  Full sun to light shade in hot gardens. Light summer water, dry winter. Provide good drainage. Solitary when young, slowly clustering, 12" in diameter, 8" high. Pink flowers. Origin: Texas, southeastern New Mexico, northeastern Mexico.
